Tanner Medical is kicking off their Summer of Health initiative with the Flamingo Find. Hidden around Villa Rica are small flamingos, and it’s up to you to find them all before June 11th!
You must download your passport and once you find a flamingo have the store owner sign/stamp their box in order for the find to count.
I have it on good authority that one of those little guys is hiding inside of the bookstore somewhere, so come by and try to find him!
On June 11th there will be a Flamingo Festival where you can turn in your signed passports and enter to win prizes!
The store is celebrating Black History Month by feature a wide variety of books featuring african americans who have changed our world.
Great titles like: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot and various children’s picture and chapter books.
It’s almost time of Valentine’s Day as well! And to celebrate we’re doing a special feature called Blind Date with a Book!
Each book is wrapped in brown packaging paper so you can’t see the title or the cover, and on the front are very short descriptions of the story. It’s a fun way to discover new books.
I recently put together a wishlist of books that are very popular and I can’t keep in stock. Here are a few titles that I would love to have in stock sometime soon, you can check out the full list here: Wishlist/Unwanted
- Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowlin
- Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon
- The Lord of the Ring series by J.R.R Tolkien (as well as The Hobbit and The Silmarillion)
- Any John Green or David Levithan books
- The Maze Runner by James Dashner
- The Divergent series by Veronica Roth
Also please take a moment to look over our trade-in policies before you bring in your books to trade.
September 21st – 27th
This is a pretty awesome week for bookworms! It’s Banned Books Week and Tolkien Week!!
Banned Books Week
Banned Books Week is a nationally recognized week devoted to speaking out against the banning of books and celebrating the freedom to read.
I plan to highlight some of the titles that I have in stock and the reasons why they were banned.
Tolkien Week (Hobbit Day)
This one is near to my heart because I adore Tolkien’s work. I’ll only highlight these books on Sept 22nd which is Hobbit Day and Bilbo Baggins birthday.
Dog-eared Books has officially been open for a month as of today!
I have a few new things to share with you this week as well as some general updates.
Books On Sale
I have a lot of overstock and I’m looking to get rid of it as quickly as I can so that the back room where I keep the extra stock will be clean enough for me to place a desk in.
Make sure to check out the large box (and crate) of books located at the back of the store. There are a variety of books with their prices cut in half.
I actually got the cards in a couple of weeks ago, but I forgot to share them here. The back has a QR code that if scanned on a smart phone will bring you to this website.
Though our name is ‘Dog-eared’ we still love bookmarks! These were made by me and my mother, and you can grab one or two for free at the counter!
In case you did not know the store does have a Facebook page where I post updates more frequently. You can like the page on the right sidebar! ->
I will occasionally post new stock, book sales, or recommendations. I will also post there if the store closes on an atypical day (or time)
Official Grand Opening!
Dog-eared Books will be having it’s official grand opening on Thursday, July 24, at 11:30am!
There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony, and some light snacks for you to enjoy while you browse. I do hope you join us!
The credit card machine is up and running!
Dog-Eared Books does do special orders, so if you can’t find it in the store I’ll gladly put in a order for you.
I know most of you have not had a chance to call the store, however I wanted to make sure that you knew of the number change. I now have a phone specifically for Dog-Eared Books, that way no one is confused when I answer the phone.
The credit card machine is still down unfortunately, but I am working with Intuit now to get everything resolved. Hopefully it will be up before the end of the week! *fingers crossed*
Thank you for supporting the store and for stopping by! I look forward to seeing everyone again and to meeting new customers!
Dog-Eared Books is Open!
